California Sailing

Gimmy went to California for work that was planned to be only one week, but then because of the volcanic ash cloud in Iceland his trip in California was extended another week. Sisi and I stayed in Florence :( but it was not bad since the weather turned to be nice and warm :)
It was a nice vaction of sailing, sushi and visiting with friends!

The Move!

Ciao to our friends and family in California!

The day we left the Marina was beautiful, one of the best days of the year so far. We were packed and ready to go. I had to finish packing Sisi’s bag that day, since I had done one last load of laundry before the trip. My parents came down to give us a ride to the airport. We had five, big, red, bags of luggage, Sisi’s playyard/crib, and the stroller + carseat, we also had our 2 carry-ons and my extra backpack. We unloaded at the curb and said “See you in Italy!…” to my parents. Gimmy had to make a couple of trips to the Swiss airlines check in while I waited by our bags inside. While we waited for our luggage to get checked we found out that 4 out of the 5 were over weight! Thus, bought another big red bag, we opened up all four over weight bags to take out some clothes of each and put them into the new one. That was fun. It was way too crazy of a time that I did not get any pictures of that (too bad), I think Gimmy would have killed me…or would have left me at LAX. Just imagine all our luggage on the floor, opened up, taking out things and reorganizing right there in front of the check in, mean while Sisi waking up and crying. Good thing we planned to be there early!

We eventually checked in and had plenty of time before the flight. Sisi was very awake and observant. She new something was up but didn’t know what. She was looking around whenever the voice on the speakers came on. We boarded the plane first, and also found out that the bulk head we requested and double checked twice was not reserved for us. Another bummer, since our carseat did not fit where we ended up. We had to put it in the overhead compartment, at this point we both thought, “so much for our plan.” Of course it worked out fine. Sisi was able to lay down in the seat, that we got for her, in between Gimmy and me.

She was so tired that she fell asleep during take off and slept most of the whole flight. She woke up only once in he middle of the flight, when another baby was crying, she was awake for about an hour and went back to bed. I had a hard time sleeping but managed to get a few hours in. Gimmy slept also, luckily for him, he falls asleep fast and can sleep anywhere.

We changed flights in Zurich, and this plane was late to leave. Sisi was still so tired while we were waiting for the next plane she fell asleep in my arms with her head on my shoulder.

Finally arrived in Rome, we then had to find help to get all 7 of our bags and also to find a car that could fit all them and us. Literally, the mini van was the only way to go! Our journey was not over, we had to drive about five and a half hours to get to the south of Italy where Gimmy’s family lives. Sisi was pretty good, she again slept most of the way, until the last 20 minutes, when I think she had enough of traveling, and cried.

We got to Gimmy’s moms house in Catanzaro, I rescued Sisi and introduced her to her Nonna Sara. Sara was very happy to see Sisi and wanted to play with her even when it was 3 o’clock in the morning!

March!

The long month of March, and we have been very busy. I have been saying that in just about every post. We are leaving in 6 days. Finishing up all the last minute things, meeting up with friends we wont see for a while, finishing the boxes, and of course playing with Sisi and going to her 6 month check up! She will be 6 months on the same day as when we leave to Italy.

Sisi! Oh babies, their moods change so dramatically!

We did a lot this month and I have been posting pictures like mad on this thing. Just wait until we are in Italy! Ha ha, well, these things are for "keeping in touch" right? Here are some more photos from this month!

Another pool day. We get the marine layer of fog and on some days it stays until sundown and other days it clears up and feels like a real summer day.

Sisi looking sweet and happy!

My parents came out to do a race on the Brava. Our 22 foot Colombia ( small cruiser sailboat). While they were here we went for a walk in the marina and along the canals. It was extremely windy that day, we saw white caps in the marina channel and water coming over the break water, which is rare.

Gimmy is such a good Babbo! Some of my favorite pictures of Gimmy and Sisi.

Walkin' on Venice Beach!

Jessica's birthday party! Sisi and I went over to Hollywood to see some friends before we leave, AND to celebrate my friend Jessica's birthday! It was "Groovy 60s theme" and I was not appropriately dressed. At least no one out dressed the b-day girl! Pictured left to right: Jess Chen and Sisi; Drew, Jessica, me and Sisi.

Sailing Race...with Sisi?!

There was a sailboat race to Topanga and back, which is a pretty fun race because of where the mark roundings are located and it is not too long. Gimmy decided to do this race on the Viper, "Elementshield", and Sisi and I were invited to go on a boat called Cheetah. {Thank you, Chris!}
Sisi is ready to go! She has on a little hat, sun protection!
Cheetah is ( Gimmy's very good friend) Chris' boat, that they raced on during Transpac.
It is a big boat,70', so there was enough room for us to go along! I was very excited since I have not done much racing since Sisi has been born and I was also very excited that Sisi could come too!
These are pictures from the race. Pictured left to right is: Doug, Chris, and Zach.
Gimmy's boat, the yellow one with the number 50914 on the sail. On board that day: Gimmy, Thomas, Annie, Lorenzo and Dylan.
During this picture we are passing Gimmy, and Gimmy is passing our friend Jerome. Jerome is on the red boat. You can see Gimmy looking over at us he is sitting in the back on the yellow boat.

Sisi and I in one of the cabins. She had fun when the boat was healing over, she would roll right over with the waves. Im looking forward to tell Sisi ( when she is old enough to get it) that she went racing on a 70' sailboat in the Santa Monica Bay, and our competition was her Babbo!

Yacht Club Opening

It was the Yacht Club Opening over
the past weekend. Sisi was surprising good, the pictures don't show it but I think all the activity might have made her so sleepy and content, she just hung out...in the sling :)
We also had my mom, her very good friend Anne and my Aunt Laura come to see us and join in the Yacht Club opening festivities. Our Yacht Club is known for its Irish Coffees. They were VERY strong, so I sipped the green sprinkled whipped cream and tossed the rest, went to another table and grabbed a mimosa. But everyone else seemed to like them.
Sisi with her Nonna. We are all wearing blue and white, how nautical. It is the uniform for the event.

The Count Down...

Well, less than 3 weeks now until the big move. This is what our apartment looks now. We basically have no furniture, which is a good thing because we'd rather live with nothing for a little while than worry about what to do with our stuff. Mostly everything is in a box stacked and organized in our apartment or at Storage Lake Arrowhead ( thanks mom and dad). Every day is busy, Gimmy is calling his family in Italy, boxing and boxing and more boxing, keeping organized.

Sisi has a really big play area now...
